Meal Prep and Pre-Treating FoodsUpdated 3 days ago
You can pre-treat certain foods with FODZYME® ahead of time - specifically liquid, creamy, or mushy foods - to help break down FODMAPs before you eat. This can be especially helpful for meal prep and sauces.
What Foods Can Be Pre-Treated
Pre-treating works best when FODZYME® can mix evenly throughout the food.
Good options include:
- Smoothies and drinks
- Sauces and dressings
- Dips and spreads
- Soups, broths, and purees
- Pastes or blended foods
Solid or dry foods are not ideal for pre-treating, as the enzymes need direct, even contact with FODMAPs.
How to Pre-Treat Food
Pre-treating allows the enzymes time to break down FODMAPs before consumption.
How to do it:
- Mix the correct dose of FODZYME® evenly into the food
- Let it sit at room temperature for 2–3 hours, or longer (up to 24 hours) if refrigerated
- Store as you normally would until ready to eat
Once pre-treated, the food can be eaten as-is, or gently reheated, if needed.
Reheating Pre-Treated Foods
Reheating is fine after pre-treating.
The enzymes will have already done their job breaking down fructans, GOS, and lactose. Gentle reheating won’t undo that process - as long as FODZYME® wasn’t exposed to high heat during treatment.
Important Temperature Rules
- Do not cook or bake with FODZYME®
- Avoid temperatures above 140°F (60°C) during treatment
- Always add FODZYME® after cooking, not during
For more on safe temperature ranges, see the Temperature Guidelines article.
When Pre-Treating Is Helpful
Pre-treating is especially useful for:
- Meal prepping sauces or soups in advance
- Garlic- or onion-containing blends
- Liquid, creamy, or mushy foods you want ready to eat later with less guesswork
It adds convenience while helping reduce the risk of FODMAP-related symptoms.
