Dosing instructions & how to take FODZYME®Updated 13 days ago

FODZYME® works best when mixed directly into food at the start of meals containing FODMAPs. It can also be mixed into drinks and works effectively with liquids that contain FODMAPs. Proper timing and dosing help the enzymes break down FODMAPs efficiently and reduce digestive symptoms.

How to take it

Sprinkle FODZYME® directly onto high-FODMAP foods or mix it into your meal just before eating. The enzymes work during digestion by breaking down FODMAPs in your gut, reducing their fermentation in the colon and the symptoms that come with it (like gas, bloating, and diarrhea). For this reason, the enzymes need direct contact with food to be effective, so we wouldn't recommend taking FODZYME® on its own before eating.

For best results, mix it evenly into solid or liquid foods. Individual stick packs are available for convenient use when dining out or traveling. Always add FODZYME® at the table, not during preparation.

When to eat or drink after applying FODZYME®

Eat immediately after adding FODZYME®. The enzymes begin working as soon as they touch food. Eating or drinking right away ensures FODZYME® has enough time to break down FODMAPs before digestion progresses.

Temperature guidelines

FODZYME® works with cold, warm, and hot foods, as long as the temperature stays below 140°F (60°C). Add it right before eating so the enzymes remain active and effective. Do not cook or bake with FODZYME® as high heat deactivates the enzymes.

Cold and warm foods are ideal; no special adjustments are needed. Simply sprinkle or mix in just before eating.

For hot foods, if it's too hot to eat comfortably, it's too hot for FODZYME®. Let steaming or sizzling foods cool for a minute or two before adding. For hot soups or broths, let them cool slightly, sprinkle FODZYME® in, and stir well.

Dosing and frequency

You can use FODZYME® with every meal if needed. The standard dose is 1 stick pack or ¼ teaspoon per meal. How often you use FODZYME® depends on your diet and personal tolerance.

It is safe to use more or less than the standard dose:

You may try 1.5 to 2 doses during large meals, when eating very high-FODMAP foods, or during meals with multiple FODMAP triggers. Some people use a smaller dose with lower-FODMAP meals to manage FODMAP stacking throughout the day.

How to course with your meal:

If you're eating a single meal slowly, there's no need for an additional dose. Your initial dose should cover the full meal. For multi-course meals, consider dosing each course separately based on its FODMAP content, since the FODMAP load can vary between courses. Use a smaller amount for lighter courses (e.g. half a pack for appetizer, half for dessert) and a full dose for heavier ones.

Dosing differences between Home Kit and On-the-Go packets

The Home Kit jar includes a dosing spoon that holds approximately 0.75g per scoop. Each On-the-Go stick pack contains 1g (about 33% more per dose). The stick packs have a slightly higher dose because eating out can be less predictable.

If you're switching from packets to the Home Kit: use slightly more than one scoop (roughly 1⅓ scoops) to match what you were getting from a packet. No need to measure precisely; just a bit more than one scoop is fine.

If you're switching from the Home Kit to packets: each packet contains a bit more than one scoop, which is perfectly fine. If you were using multiple scoops per meal, you can estimate the equivalent. For example, two scoops is roughly 1.5g, so about 1.5 packets.

The difference between one scoop and one packet is small and unlikely to affect your results. The key is consistent use with FODMAP-containing meals.

If you forget a dose

If you remember within 30 minutes of starting a meal, taking FODZYME® may still help. If more than 30 minutes have passed, it's unlikely to be effective for that meal.

Safety and dosing limits

You can safely take more than the standard dose if needed. FODZYME® enzymes work only on food and are digested like regular proteins. They do not accumulate in your body, and there is no known risk from occasional higher dosing. Using excessive amounts is unnecessary, but there is no evidence of harm when adjusting doses for meal size.

Long-term use

FODZYME® is safe for long-term use and does not lose effectiveness over time. Your body does not develop tolerance to digestive enzymes, and each dose provides a fresh supply. Whether you use FODZYME® occasionally or long-term depends on your FODMAP sensitivities. Some people reduce use as they learn their triggers, while others benefit from ongoing use for dietary flexibility.
