Does FODZYME® affect the prebiotic properties of FODMAPs?Updated a month ago
FODZYME® reduces, but does not completely eliminate, the prebiotic effects of FODMAPs. FODMAPs act as prebiotic fibers, feeding beneficial gut bacteria through fermentation. Although it substantially breaks down FODMAPs, FODZYME® only lowers their fermentable load without removing them entirely. A peer-reviewed study using a simulated colon showed that short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production — a key marker of prebiotic benefits — was reduced but not eliminated with FODZYME® use. This balanced approach offers symptom relief while still allowing some beneficial fermentation, potentially supporting better long-term gut health than full FODMAP avoidance.
