How does FODZYME® impact the prebiotic effects of high FODMAP foods?Updated 7 months ago

Prebiotic fibers are an essential component of a healthy diet. FODMAPs are one type of prebiotic fiber that nourish our gut bacteria via a process called fermentation. During fermentation, gut bacteria produce various byproducts, some of which have been shown to be beneficial to human health. For example, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are produced during fermentation and help support digestive health by supplying energy to colon cells, regulating the inflammatory response, and normalizing food passage through the GI tract.

Interestingly, a recent peer-reviewed study conducted in a simulated colon showed that the production of SCFAs was reduced but not completely eliminated when using FODZYME®. This suggests that FODZYME®'s enzymatic approach to prebiotic fiber breakdown may provide greater advantages to overall colonic health than simply avoiding FODMAPs altogether [1].
